Nestled on a high hill and crossed by the curvy turns of the Yantra River, Veliko Tarnovo is a mandatory tourist stop for anyone attracted by quaint charming hamlets, mesmerizing views, and rich history. It’s one of my favorite places in Bulgaria standing out with unique culturally preserved boroughs, vibrant nightlife, and signature architecture.

Veliko Tarnovo’s streets are steep yet bearing the charm of the century’s old cobblestones, offering the perfect stroll from the city center to the partially conserved Medieval fortress “Tsarevets” – home of mighty kings during The Second Bulgarian kingdom, the head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Bulgarian aristocracy in the Middle Ages… Annually, Veliko Tarnovo’s magical spirit attracts thousands of tourists from around the world, who fully dive into the town’s cultural legacy and energizing events.

Veliko Tarnovo could be super-hot in the summer and devilishly cold during winter, but it’s always beautiful and worth exploring. If you’re an experienced traveler, you’ll fall for its low-key popularity compared to the slightly resembling Toledo, for example.

Book a trip and as a free perk, you’ll get inside info for my stay at the newly opened Bridges Residence. Save time searching hotels! The best option lies below.

Bridges Residence is a family-owned boutique hotel that will gift you the tranquility of a small street (free parking for guests available), with close proximity to the city’s signature spots.

The hotel’s interior draws inspiration from minimalistic design but also keeps alive traditional architectural traits and showcases local artists works wherever possible.

The rooms are light and laid out comfortably – providing guests with everything from high-end mattresses to nature-based cosmetics. If you’re into essential oils – book now, your nightstand comes with an Oshadhi’s diffuser.

Bridges Residence’s 7 suites welcome upon request both tourist and their furry friends (my little Mr. Darcy accompanied us on the hotel’s terrace for a delicious breakfast).

Served in a comfy chamber, the breakfast is a scrumptious selection of local delicacies with recipes developed by chef Gianfranco Chiarini – founder of the fine dining destination restaurant “Dieci”.

If you book in Spring, Summer, or early Fall you’ll get the chance to enjoy meals on the beautifully furnished terrace and get a glimpse at the two bridges after which the hotel was named after.

Finally, the service equals the great ambiance – the kind and friendly staff will be the cherry on top of your overall experience there. Don’t hesitate to ask at the reception desk about the best options for dining, hiking, and local crafts.
